sun rays .. are useful in many ways thu ultraviolet rays cause lots of bad effects on our skin , the shorter the wavelength of the ray the more damging it can be >> uvC is the most short uv ray and uvA is the longer one and it is the one that penterates our skin daily causing loss of collagen and rapid aging inretrun and also can cause immediate taning,uvC causing cancers but thank god it is filtered by our atmosphere .
uvB the medium length ray cause stimulating melanin release leading to dark pigmentation of the skin and skin burns after that ( delayed taning ) in addition to these short-term effects it enhances skin aging and significantly promotes the development of skin cancer. Most solar UVB is filtered by the atmosphere.
>> simply that's what uv rays do in human skin.
So exposing to sun is it always bad ?!
ofcourse not , during day time sun provides our bodies with vit D * read more beacuse this information is about to be corrected for most of people * , actually not all the sun rays participate in this process only uvB is involved
check the illustration below :
The fat in our skin"s superficial layer is turned into 7 dehyrocholesterol by the effect of uvB
which later is turned into D3 , which enter the liver and transformed into 25 -hydroxyvitamin D3 which will be transformed again in kidneys into 1.25 dihydroxyvitamin D3 and later into calcitonin which deposit calcium on our bones making it resistible to self fracrtures .
in a short way uvB rays helps our body in manufacturing calcium to have strong bones through providing us with the precursor for vit D..
How about dogs ? do they get the same benfit from sun ?
yea dogs too gets vit D through sun rays in same way we do,that's why you should let your dog lay under sun for quite some time to have healthy bones .
How do our furry puppies get their vitamin D3?
Dogs and cats secrete the same oily cholesterol from their skin, just like us. When they lay in the sun, that oil is, again, converted to Vitamin D3. The difference, however, is that because they have so much hair, the vitamin ends up on their fur and doesn’t get absorbed through their skin.
When they lick their body, to groom or clean themselves, they ingest the vitamin D orally.
For how long you should leave your puppy laying down under the sun ?
minimum for 30 min your pup should be exposed to sun twice aweek atleast * some breeds need more sun bath time as they have bad bony structure ex; Great Dane breed
Their bone structure is often flimsy and may break down under the heavy weight thrust upon it ,
so you may need to let them lay longer under sun .
Dogs also need sunscreen !! really ?!
yea the exposed parts from the dog's body can get sun burns so you must apply sunscreen on it , but never use your sunscreen on his skin as our sunblocks contains zinc oxide as it soothes th skin and prevent irritation , yet it considered toxic to dogs SO you must use dog's sunscreen only .
also you need to know that direct sun exposure for long time may cause heat stroke for your lovely friend .. best time to let dogs get sun bath will be from 10 am to 3 pm .. * and i recommend to be from 10 am to 12 pm maximum to avoid the heat stroke *
